Update from the Longhorns’ Monday press conference:
INJURIES: David Ash, who missed Saturday’s Ole Miss game, is day to day. The Longhorns are calling it a head injury, though we’re talking concussion here. Daje Johnson will miss his second straight game — third, if you consider he was in only three plays at BYU. He’ll be monitored Monday, and may return to practice Tuesday. Same with wide receiver Mike Davis, who has a hurt ankle. And Texas’ starting right side of the offensive line — right tackle Josh Cochran (shoulder) and right guard Mason Walters (knee) — are day to day.
Kennedy Estelle played for Cochran and Sedrick Flowers subbed in for Walters after both left the Ole Miss game.
DEPTH CHART: Greg Daniels is listed atop the two-deep at tight end, over the Geoff Swaim/M.J. McFarland duo. Swaim was on top last week. For what it’s worth, Dalton Santos is listed above Steve Edmond at middle linebacker, in an “or” listing; last week, Edmond was listed as the starter. Josh Turner may get the start at free safety, over Mykkele Thompson; they’re listed in “or” order, but Turner — who tied for the team lead in tackles against Ole Miss — is on top. And Kendall Sanders (who had a 51-yard return Saturday) and Joe Bergeron are listed as kick returners, replacing Duke Thomas and Thompson in last week’s depth chart.
Texas (1-2), which has dropped two in a row, hosts Kansas State (2-1) on Saturday. It’s the Big 12 opener for both teams.
