Horns update: Mack vs. Earl, plus injury updates

Posted September 30th, 2013

Updates from today’s regularly-scheduled media availability and press conferences with Mack Brown and players:

Mack, on Earl: Brown responded to comments made Sunday by Longhorns legend Earl Campbell, who said it was time for Brown to step down as Longhorns coach:

“Earl has done so much for Texas. He will always be welcomed at our school,” Brown said. “I’m disappointed in his comments, but he is entitled to his opinion.

Honoring Street: Longhorns players will wear orange and white “JS” stickers for Thursday’s game, to honor former Longhorns quarterback James Street, who has passed away. The stickers, for now, are only for the Texas-Iowa State game.

Texas-OU kickoff: The kickoff time for the Oct. 12 Texas-Oklahoma game has been set for 11 a.m. It’ll be on ABC.

Depth chart: David Ash is still day to day. Daje Johnson is practicing again, and, barring injury, should play Thursday night. Mike Davis, out with a sprained ankle since the Ole Miss game, is questionable. Right tackle Josh Cochran (shoulder) is out; he’ll be replaced by sophomore Kennedy Estelle, who’ll make his second career start. And redshirt freshman Tim Cole will get his first career start at weakside linebacker, in place of Jordan Hicks, who has been lost for the year with a torn Achilles.
