Posted October 28th, 2013

Updates from today’s Longhorns press conferences:

Texas-West Virginia kickoff: Next week’s Texas-West Virginia game will kick off at 6 p.m. Central time. It’ll be televised on Fox Sports 1.

Ash, Cochran out: No need to wait till game time for Texas to decide the status of quarterback David Ash (concussion) and right tackle Josh Cochran (shoulder). They’ve both already been ruled out.

Case McCoy, who has led the Longhorns to Big 12 wins over Kansas State, Iowa State, Oklahoma and TCU, will get his 11th career start.

Sophomore Kennedy Estelle will make his fifth start in place of Cochran.

Jeffcoat, Fera honored: Defensive end Jackson Jeffcoat, who had one sack, 2.5 tackles for loss, two pass breakups, three quarterback pressures and four tackles against TCU, was named the Big 12’s defensive player of the week. He also was part of the play that caused Trevone Boykin’s first-quarter fumble, which led to Malcolm Brown’s opening touchdown run. And Fera, who kicked three field goals, was named special teams player of the week for the first time in his career.

Scott elevated: Junior defensive back Leroy Scott, who recovered TCU’s fumbled punt return last weekend, has made an appearance on the two-deep this week. He’s listed as an either/or backup option at strong safety behind starter Adrian Phillips. Scott was the third player listed at free safety last week.
