Texas’ defense  took a hit Thursday night. Junior linebacker Steve Edmond, who was injured on a hard hit on a block by Red Raiders reciever Eric Ward, suffered a lacerated liver and will miss the Baylor game, it was announced today.

He’s the second starting linebacker Texas has lost; Jordan Hicks was lost for the season after tearing his Achilles tendon against Kansas State. Edmond, in fact, had been switched from middle linebacker to Hicks’ weakside spot after Hicks’ injury. Dalton Santos has been starting in the middle ever since.

It’s not known whether Edmond might be back for Texas’ bowl game, Texas head athletic trainer Kenny Boyd said. Kendall Thompson, another linebacker, suffered a head injury against Texas Tech and is being evaluated.
