Mack addresses media after loss

Posted December 7th, 2013

Some initial quotes from Texas head coach Mack Brown, after the Longhorns’ 30-10 loss to Baylor:
Brown: We didn’t really do much at all on offense in the first half, and we played great defense and they struggled on offense as well.

We gave them the wind in the third quarter to have it in the fourth quarter, and they take two (drives) down and  score immediately, and we have a holding penalty on the kickoff that backs us up, and we can’t get off the goal line. And we have a holding penalty at left tackle that backs us up and we can’t get off the goal line.

They scored both times, and we fought our way back into it. I really thought four minutes and 48 seconds we still had a chance to win, but we muffed the fumbled punt out of bounds when we had a chance to scoop it and score. You’ve got to do those things if you’re going to win. Then we threw the interception that they took it back for the last score to be set up that took us out of the ball game.

We didn’t make the plays that we needed to make. I’m proud of the way the guys fought back throughout the year, but disappointed in tonight.

Question: Can this season still be a success, in light of what happened today?

I think so. You’ve got to figure out where you’re going to the bowl game tomorrow and then go ahead and finish and try to get your ninth win.

Disappointing tonight. When the Oklahoma game fell like we needed it to, and then we’re sitting there in great position to win a Big 12 championship, and you’ve got 30 minutes to win it, it’s disappointing. So we’re gonna have a task to get their heads back up for the bowl game.

Question: Are you able to look at this season as a whole and think about what you did?

Probably not tonight. We’ll probably talk to them about that next week. Right now, they’re just so disappointed. It’s a sad locker room.

Question: What about the future? Your thoughts on next season, and where you want to be with this program, and going forward?

Gotta just keep playing, keep winning. We had our chance to get the Big 12 championship this year. The guys will go out recruiting tomorrow and go back to work and try to win the bowl game, get your ninth win and go back to spring practice.

Question: Did you get into any rhythm on offense all day?
No. We didn’t hit any passes. We just weren’t consistent on offense at all. It was an ugly night for us offensively. Very disappointing.

Question: Have you decided whether you want to be back next year or not?

I’m not talking about any of that tonight. I’m in the same position I was when I’ve been asked for the other 15 times. We’ll talk about the team tonight.
