Racist Charlie Strong T-shirt no longer for sale

Posted January 13th, 2014

Plenty of T-shirts have popped up – many of them unlicensed – since the University of Texas hired new head football coach Charlie Strong.

Most are cute, showing UT pride, bearing slogans such as “Stronghorns,” “Texas Strong,” “Don’t Mess with Strong” and “UT Strong,” but one most definitely crossed the line.

Social media exploded after someone found a shirt for sale on Etsy that many people believe to be racist.

The shirt, which obviously wasn’t OK’d by the university, features an image of Strong, who is black, and says “Black is the new Brown.”

Not cool, guys.

The shirt – marketed by a seller who offers a variety of other UT T-shirts emblazoned with innocuous sayings such as “Wild about Longhorns,” “Longhorn Cutie” and, of course, “Hook ’em Horns” – appeared to have been removed from the site as of midday Monday.
