Bob Shipley, who worked as an analyst under former Texas coach Mack Brown, is expected to become the new athletic director and head coach at Belton.
Belton ISD superintendent Susan Kincannon will recommend Shipley’s appointment to the school board during a special meeting at 5 p.m. Monday.
Shipley, father of Texas receivers Jordan and Jaxon Shipley, joined the UT staff last year. Previously, he was a long-time high school administrator with a 125-42 record in 14 seasons as a high school coach.
“The depth of his experience and his record of successfully developing players make Bob the right person to lead our football team — and of our athletic programs – forward,” Kincannon said in a statement. “I’m excited to recommend him to the board.”
Just before joining Brown’s staff, Shipley posted a 39-14 record at Brownwood and reached the playoffs all four years. He was 15-7 in two seasons at Coppell and reached the Class 3A state title game twice at Burnet.
Shipley worked alongside Patrick Suddes, Texas’ former director of player personnel. Suddes announced on Twitter earlier this week he had accepted a similar role at Arizona State.
In addition to his two Longhorn sons, Shipley and his wife Sharon have two daughters, Shelby and Addie Jane.
