Two Longhorns dismissed from football team

Posted March 16th, 2014

Texas coach Charlie Strong made his first disciplinary move just two days before the start of spring practice.

Backup fullback Chet Moss and defensive back Leroy Scott were dismissed from the football team for an undisclosed violation of team rules, the school announced late Sunday.

Moss, a junior from Cedar Park, had been a career backup who played mostly special teams the last two seasons.

Scott, a junior from Pasadena, was a reserve defensive back last season and played on special teams. He had three fumble recoveries and six special-teams tackles in 2013.

Many have wondered when Strong’s no-nonsense belief system would start showing up.

Strong has said that players can lose their scholarship for only a few reasons: breaking one of his core values, like honesty and treating women with respect, becoming academically ineligible or being expelled by university officials.

Texas opens spring drills Tuesday. All practices are closed to the public. The annual Orange-White spring game is April 19.
