A Shootout? A Rivalry? No, it’s the Red River Showdown

The Red River Shootout became politically incorrect. Calling it the Red River Rivalry was apparently too obvious.

So this year’s Texas-Oklahoma game at Fair Park has been dubbed the AT&T Red River Showdown, according to both schools and the telecom giant. A new logo highlighting both teams was created and will be on full display on Oct. 11.

This is the ninth year that AT&T has been a title sponsor of the titanic matchup, which is known simply as Texas-OU or OU-Texas depending on which side of the Red River you live.

”We’re excited to continue connecting college football fans to this iconic game for years to come,” said Mark Wright, AT&T vice president of media services and sponsorships.
