Ash out for spring with a broken foot

Posted April 11th, 2014

David Ash has suffered a broken foot and will have surgery next week, which means he’ll miss the rest of spring football, including next Saturday’s Orange-White Game.

The injury was announced this afternoon, by UT trainer Anthony Pass. The injury is a Jones fracture, or a break at the base of the small toe. The injury was to his left foot.

Ash, who missed most of last season with concussion issues, is expected to be back in time for preseason workouts in August, Pass said.

Not having Ash means Texas has only three options at quarterback for the spring game — backup quarterback Tyrone Swoopes; Trey Holtz, a walk-on quarterback and the grandson of former Notre Dame coach Lou Holtz; and Miles Onyegbule, a former wide receiver and tight end.
