Last year’s loss to Baylor still haunts the Texas upperclassmen. Some of them truly believe the Longhorns would have won had Texas stuck with the ground game instead of trying to match the Bears’ high-flying offense.
The game was tied, 3-3, at the half. The Longhorns will forever know they were 30 minutes from winning the Big 12 title and playing in the Fiesta Bowl. That still doesn’t sit well with Texas linebacker Steve Edmond.
“I really don’t like Baylor. I still think they’re trash and stuff like that,” Edmond said Saturday in front of four reporters, including the American-Statesman. “I feel like just bad luck happened to us.
“Baylor sucks,” he added. “Y’all think it’s funny, but I’m dead serious. I don’t like Baylor. They had some good players, like when Kendall Wright came through, they were just airing the ball out deep. It wasn’t nothing serious. I don’t understand how we lost to Baylor. The defense was playing good, the offense just wasn’t scoring.”
Edmond wasn’t even allowed to go to the game since he suffered a lacerated liver injury on Thanksgiving night against Texas Tech.
“I knew we were a better team that how we were playing,” Edmond said. “And then Baylor got a win and act like they never won before. You’ve been in high school, so you how to react when you win a game.”
All of these comments came without Edmond even being asked about Baylor. He just let loose. Suffice to say, this will come up again when they meet this fall.
“They won it,” Edmond said, “but they still suck to me.”
All of this prompted Baylor’s Troy Baker to tweet the following message:
I love this trash too. pic.twitter.com/WosPbdSTJa
