Texas LB Dalton Santos hits Twitter to raise money for mom

Posted April 20th, 2014

One day after a solid performance in Texas’ spring game, linebacker Dalton Santos took to social media to help raise money for his mom’s medical expenses.

Santos posted on his Twitter account an open plea for donations to raise as much as $5,000. On Sunday afternoon, the fund was only $700. By nightfall, after several high-profile players had retweeted Santos’ original message, the total was bumped up to $2,500.

The following description is written on a website that is accepting donations:

“Vista has been diagnosed with an AORTIC ANEURYSM. This MUST be repaired SOON by means of OPEN HEART SURGERY. As we all know Vista is a very proud momma to 3 children. Dalton, Wyatt and Gracie. Vista will be unable to work for at least 10 weeks. She is a single mom. She is a nurse and spends her days caring for others. Now she needs to learn how to let others care for her, even if only for a short time.”

Santos had six tackles in Saturday’s spring game and is expected to be a key member of the linebacker rotation in the fall.
