The first day of the Texas Invitational ended with a couple of top-3 finishes for the Texas Longhorns in the 800-yard freestyle relays at the Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center on Wednesday evening.
The Texas women took second place with an automatic NCAA qualifying time of 7 minutes, 2.85 seconds in the event final. Madisyn Cox posted a time of 1:44.93 in the lead-off leg. Brooke Hansen, Tasija Karosas and Nora McCullagh rounded out the Texas team in the event. Arizona finished in first with a time of 7:01.50.
The Texas men finished in third place with a time of 6:25.93 in the “B” 800-yard relay final. Ryan Harty, P.J. Dunne, Jeff Newkirk and Sam Lewis finished behind Arizona (6:22.76) and Wisconsin (6:24.36) in the event.
Thursday’s preliminaries start at 9 a.m., followed by the finals at 6 p.m. at the Jamail Texas Swimming Center.
