Twelfth-ranked Texas won five of six singles matches and took two of three doubles matches in a 6-1 victory over UC-Santa Barbara on Saturday night at The University of Washington’s Nordstrom Tennis Center in Seattle.
Texas (3-0) won the doubles point for the third straight match and won five straight singles matches to get the team win.
“Our team is really coming together,” said Texas coach Michael Center. “I thought our guys played really hard against a good UCSB team. We’ve got another tough one tomorrow and play Washington on its home courts.”
UT’s George Goldhoff and freshman Julian Zlobinsky beat Morgan Mays and Nicolas Moreno 6-2 and Texas freshmen Colin Markes and Harrison Scott defeated Anders Holm and Chase Masciorini 6-1 to take the doubles point.
Goldhoff added to the lead with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Mays at first singles and Scott put Texas up 3-0 with a 7-5, 6-3 victory over Nathan Eshmade at second singles.
Texas sophomore Adrian Ortiz rallied from a first set loss to defeat Cody Rakela 3-6, 6-3, 6-3 and John Mee clinched the match win a 6-2, 7-6 win over Oliver Sec.
