Instant reaction: Baylor 3, Texas 1 — Horns suffer second 30-loss season in school history

Posted May 20th, 2016

Where it went wrong: Baylor attacked for three runs in the seventh inning and has now scored all of its runs this series in two innings. Matt Menard chased UT reliever Eric Dunbar with a two-run double to right, prompting an appearance from Travis Duke, who threw a wild pitch to advance a runner to third. That set up Kameron Esthay’s RBI single to left.

The starter: In his final start at home, senior Ty Culbreth went just three innings presumably to rest for next week’s Big 12 tournament. He struck out two and allowed two hits.

Top hitter: Kacy Clemens, 2-4, RBI.

Key stat: At 21-30, Texas has lost 30 games for just the second time in program history. The other came in 1998, when UT went 23-32-1 in Augie Garrido’s second season.

Next game: 2 p.m., Saturday vs. Baylor.
