Three-star safety Montrell Estell, the No. 44 player on the American-Statesman’s Fab 55, has committed to Texas according to his Twitter account.

Estell, of Hooks, a 3A school near Texarkana, can play receiver but is expected to line up on defense at Texas. He is the big-bodied type Charlie Strong covets at the back end of his defense, checking in at 6 feet, 2 inches and 180 pounds.

This is a big get, as Estell held offers from Alabama, Texas A&M, Baylor and Notre Dame, among others. According to 247Sports’ composite ratings, Estell is a three-star prospect and the No. 314 player nationally.

He is the seventh commitment to Texas’ 2017 class and the second defensive back following Lake Dallas cornerback Kobe Boyce. Overall the class is No. 21 nationally and third in the Big 12.
