The University of Texas is searching for someone new to oversee the football team’s academics.

According to a UT job posting, the athletic department is seeking an associate athletic director for football student services. No specific salary range is indicated, but the job posting says the person would start immediately.

Texas officials did not respond for comment. Historically, the school does not comment on personnel matters.

In June 2014, former athletic director Steve Patterson fired Brian Davis, who oversaw the football team’s academic concerns for Mack Brown’s entire 16-year tenure. The American-Statesman reported at the time that Davis’ firing was more about internal politics than what actually happened in the classroom.

According to a source familiar with the decision, Davis was told his position was being eliminated. However, Eric Beverly assumed Davis’ duties and began overseeing the football team’s academic concerns.

Beverly is still listed as the assistant athletic director responsible for football student services in the UT online directory. A UT spokesman said Monday that Beverly’s status had not changed.

For months, the Texas athletic department has been vague about who runs academic student services.

According to the UT website, Randa Ryan is still listed as the executive senior associate athletic director for student services. However the American-Statesman reported in February that Ryan had not worked with students since last fall. At that time, coaches were under the assumption Ryan’s No. 2, Kat Richter Hastings, was running the department.

Texas officials have refused numerous requests to detail Ryan’s status. According to payroll data obtained through an open records request, Ryan’s annual compensation package is approximately $260,000.

The school is also searching for a new football director of player development. Former UT offensive lineman Octavious Bishop posted and then deleted a message on his Facebook account that he had been hired for the job.

According to the UT job posting, the school is searching for someone with a Master’s degree in social work. Bishop received his Master’s degree in social work from UT in August 2008.
