Instant reaction: TCU 8, Texas 2 — season is over two wins shy of Big 12 title
Posted May 28th, 2016
Where it went wrong: When TCU’s Luken Baker stepped to the plate in the fifth. The hulking freshman took Beau Ridgeway deep for a 431-foot three-run blast that hit a railing above a LED scoreboard in left field. The ball then kept moving and hit a Hampton Inn & Suites across the street. Baker’s homer gave TCU a 4-2 lead, and the Frogs blew it open with three more runs in the sixth.
The starter: Operating on two days of rest, Ty Culbreth threw 34 pitches and worked 2 2/3 innings before six relievers finished the deal. Culbreth gave up four hits, and the lone run he allowed came after Ridgeway had taken over.
Top hitter: Bret Boswell, 3-3, RBI.
Key stat: Texas finishes the season 25-32, matching the 1998 team for the most losses in school history.
