Texas coach Charlie Strong avoided a direct question about Vance Bedford’s status on Monday’s Big 12 Conference call and will address the issue at his regular 11 a.m. press conference.
Late Sunday, a source confirmed to the American-Statesman that Bedford, UT’s defensive coordinator since 2014, would be stripped of his play-calling duties and Strong would be responsible for the defense the rest of the season.
Strong answered numerous other questions about this week’s game against No. 20 Oklahoma.
“You look at it, we’re sitting here 2-2 and that win will get us to three and you feel like you can get some momentum back,” Strong said. “We just need our guys to go out and complete, have fun and just enjoy the atmosphere.”
Charlie Strong: "I tell our guys all the time, you can’t be afraid to make a mistake, and that happens sometimes on defense."

Strong admitted he did call some plays against Oklahoma State. The Longhorns also put four new players in the starting lineup. The Cowboys still finished with 555 total yards in a 49-31 win.
Asked about the coaching staff’s confidence, Strong said, “The players are going to feed off you. If you walk around with the right attitudes, they’re going to see it and that’s how they’re going to carry themselves.”
