Texas freshmen move on to third round at ITA All-American Championships
Posted October 7th, 2016
Texas freshmen Christian Sigsgaard and Yuya Ito advanced to the third round of the ITA All-American Championships with a pair of victories in the round of 32 on Friday in Tulsa, Okla.
Sigsgaard rallied from a first-set loss to defeat Ohio State’s Herkko Pollanen 2-6, 6-3, 6-3. Sigsgaard has won nine matches at the tournament and will play Baylor’s Max Tchoutakian in the third round Saturday.
Ito, a native of Yokohama, Japan, defeated Southern Cal’s Logan Smith 6-3, 6-3 and will face Florida’s Alfredo Perez on Saturday.
“Yuya and Christian did particularly well today given the conditions they experienced out there,” Texas coach Michael Center said. “It was windy and cooler, and the ball was not moving as quickly. They were trying to figure out what to do, but they made nice adjustments that worked really well.”
