Texas starts year ranked 21st in AP Top 25 poll

Posted October 31st, 2016

The Longhorns broke into the Associated Press Top 25 poll in February last season but never got higher than 23rd.

This season, Texas is a young group but will start ranked 21st per the initial AP poll released on Monday.

At Shaka Smart’s press conference Monday morning, he believes his team isn’t worthy of the lofty ranking.

“We’re a long way from being in the top 25 right now as I speak on Oct. 31,” Smart said.

Kansas was rated the third-best team by the AP voters. Two other Big 12 teams – West Virginia and Iowa State – were slotted at No. 20 and No. 24 respectively. Despite reaching the NCAA semifinals last year, Oklahoma starts the season outside the Top 25.
