Texas’ Charlie Strong was named the Bobby Dodd Coach of the Week after his team’s 35-34 upset over previously unbeaten Baylor.
The weekly award, which is affiliated with the Peach Bowl, honors the coach whose program embodies academics, leadership and integrity while having success on the field.
In a statement, the chairman of the Bobby Dodd Coach of the Year foundation said, “What a huge win for coach Strong and his Longhorns.
“To come from behind and knock off a previously undefeated team certainly qualifies as one of the biggest wins of the weekend and makes coach Strong a deserving honoree for this week’s award,” Jim Terry said.
Strong’s two top offensive Longhorns were also honored on Monday by the Big 12 office. Running back D’Onta Foreman was named the league’s offensive player of the week while quarterback Shane Buechele was the newcomer of the week.
Texas (4-4, 2-3 Big 12) travels to Texas Tech this weekend.
