Texas LB Tim Cole’s father suffers pre-game heart attack
Posted November 12th, 2016
Texas linebacker Tim Cole’s father went into cardiac arrest around 8:30 a.m. Saturday outside the north end of Royal-Memorial Stadium while awaiting the team busses to arrive.
An Austin-Travis County EMS spokesman said a 60-year-old male required 20-30 minutes of work before responders recorded a return of pulse. He was transported to St. David’s Medical Center and was still in intensive care Saturday afternoon.
Coach Charlie Strong said he told the players what happened before Texas faced West Virginia. When the Longhorns came onto the field, multiple players hugged Cole and gave him multiple high-fives and fist bumps.
Cole had two tackles and picked up an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty for getting into a fracas on a special-teams play.
“We know Tim had a heavy heart out there,” defensive end Malcolm Roach said. “He’s a strong person. We played together, and I don’t think he let it affect his play. He played a great game today.”
