Tom Herman wishes Texas high school coaches luck before state championships

Posted December 13th, 2016

Texas coach Tom Herman continued to further his relationships with Texas high school coaches Monday evening, when he attended the Touchdown Club of Houston’s Private High School Awards Dinner.

Just how tuned into the grassroots is he?

Well, Herman told the assembled media that he texted all of the coaches with teams playing for titles at the UIL state football championships this weekend in Arlington.

“I just told them congratulations and that we’d be cheering for them,” he said. “I think what I wrote was ‘Go win the whole damn thing.'”

It’s a small gesture, but one that is sure to strike a chord with the coaches and their players.

In his fist two weeks on the job, Herman hasn’t shied away from his promise to recruit the best in Texas.

He’s gone all over the state meeting with recruits and their high school coaches. He even found time to endear himself to the fans by handing out pizza on the UT campus during finals.

Of course, it helps to be able to travel in style. Check out this photo Herman tweeted Monday afternoon of the helicopter he took to attend the banquet in Houston. That ought to impress high school players and coaches, too.
