The tight end position has become practically invisible at Texas in recent years. New coach Tom Herman may change all that.
The Longhorns landed another commitment from a tight end on Thursday when Tulsa (Okla.) Jenks product Reese Leitao announced he was coming to UT.
The 6-foot-4 standout originally committed to Nebraska last summer and stuck with that plan throughout the football season. However, Leitao took an official visit to Austin in early December and then announced he was ready to join the Longhorns. He’s considered a three-star prospect, according to 247Sports.
“Through much more consideration and thought with family, I believe that the best decision for me is to end my recruitment right now,” Leitao said in a message posted on Twitter. “Once again I’d like to thank all of the programs that have recruited me and everyone that has helped me in this process but currently I am committed to the University of Texas.”
Leitao’s decision comes less than a week after Texas got Lake Travis tight end Cade Brewer to flip his commitment to Texas from SMU.
“Just get started,” Herman posted on his Twitter account. “This latest commit is the 2nd one at a position of need.”
