Texas and Oklahoma State once played one of the most entertaining Big 12 basketball games of all-time in 2007. It was Kevin Durant’s lone year at Texas and Oklahoma State was led by Mario Boggan. Durant scored 37 points, grabbed 11 rebounds and blocked four shots. Boggan was just as ridiculous with 37 points, 20 rebounds and four blocks.
The game went into overtime and the Cowboys won 105-103:
Since that game almost 10 years ago (yeah, it’s been 10 years), Texas and the Cowboys have produced more memorable moments and produced great players. But what if we took the best five Longhorns of all-time and matched them up against the best five Cowboys of all-time?
G T.J. Ford, 6-0 (2001-2003) — 12.9 pts, 8.0 ast, 3.8 reb
G Travis Mays, 6-2 (1986-1990) — 18.4 pts, 4.8 reb, 2.3 ast
F Kevin Durant, 6-9 (2006-07) — 25.8 pts, 11.1 reb, 1.3 ast
F LaMarcus Aldridge, 6-11 (2004-2006) — 13.5 pts, 8.2 reb
C Chris Mihm, 7-0 (1997-2000) — 14.6 pts, 9.8 reb, 2.8 bl
G John Lucas III, 5-11 (2002-2005) –16.3 pts, 4.2 ast, 89% FT
G Tony Allen, 6-4 (2002-2004) — 15.3 pts, 2.0 stl, 5.5 reb
F James Anderson, 6-6 (2007-2010) — 17.9 pts, 5.1 reb, 1.4 stl.
F Joey Graham, 6-7 (2003-2005)– 15 pts, 5.7 reb, 81% FT
C Bryant “Big Country” Reeves, 7-0, 275 pounds (1991-1995) — 17.5, 8.5 reb, 1.4 bl
Bryant Reeves would likely own Chris Mihm down low. Big Country was a two-time Big 8 POY and All-American and was huge. But Oklahoma State would have no answer for Kevin Durant and LaMarcus Aldridge (Joey Graham and James Anderson were good, but not that good). The guard matchup would be the show. T.J. Ford has his work cut out defending John Lucas, and does Travis Mays score on Tony Allen?
On the bench
Rick Barnes is definitely coaching Texas, but Oklahoma State? Eddie Sutton coached most of these players, but we’re going with Henry Iba, Hall of Famer and innovator of basketball.
The sixth man
Texas is bringing D.J. Augustin off the bench, while Oklahoma State is bringing All-American Marcus Smart to counter him.
What do you think?
