Kendal Yancy, Mareik Isom continue to remain sidelined

Both players still out with ankle injuries; Yancy expected to miss TCU, West Virginia games

Posted January 9th, 2017

Texas guard Kendal Yancy will likely miss both games this week as he continues to get beyond a high ankle sprain, coach Shaka Smart said.

“If he comes back sooner than that, I’ll be surprised,” Smart said Monday.

Yancy and Smart both did a pool workout last weekend while the team was at Iowa State. The 6-foot-3 senior was just cleared to remove the walking boot he wore last week.

Yancy’s absence deprives the Longhorns of another ball-handler. He averaged 6.2 points and shot 46 percent through the first 13 games. Yancy suffered the injury during a spill chasing a loose ball at Kansas State on Dec. 30.

Meanwhile, there is still no firm timetable on when graduate senior transfer Mareik Isom will make his season debut. Isom had a complicated ankle issue where he developed an infection after pre-season arthroscopic surgery.

“He’s practicing, and hopefully he’ll be able to get in a game and help us soon,” Smart said of Isom. It was thought the 6-foot-9 swingman would give the Horns another perimeter threat.
