The Texas softball team was picked to finish second by the Big 12 coaches in this year’s preseason poll released Wednesday.
Defending national champion Oklahoma was a unanimous pick to repeat as Big 12 champion by. It’s the fifth straight time, and the eighth in the last nine years, the Sooners have topped the preseason coaches’ poll.
The Sooners received six first place votes while Texas (38-16 in 2016) received one vote. Coaches are not allowed to vote for their own team.
The Longhorns have been voted third in each of the past three season behind the Sooners and Baylor, which was third. The Longhorns and Bears are both coming of NCAA Regional appearance.
Oklahoma State came in fourth while Kansas, who is also coming off a NCAA Regional appearance, came in fifth. Texas Tech and Iowa State round out the preseason poll.
