WATCH: Texas releases ‘#ImpactFreshmen’ video as part of social media efforts

Posted January 11th, 2017

Three weeks before national signing day, Texas Director of Player Personnel Derek Chang has a message for recruits.

On Wednesday, Chang blasted out a video on his Twitter feed with the title ‘#ImpactFreshmen,’ which featured more than 2 minutes of highlights from true freshmen who played for the Longhorns last season.

The message here is simple: If these guys did it, so can you. Players like Shane Buechele, Devin Duvernay, Collin Johnson, Malcolm Roach and Brandon Jones flash across the screen making some truly memorable plays from Texas’ season.

That has to excite players already committed to Texas, and give undecided players pause. Chance the Rapper isn’t a bad touch, either.

The video is yet another early sign of what to expect from new coach Tom Herman and his staff on social media.

“My job is to tell (UT President Greg) Fenves and Mike Perrin what we need to compete at a championship level,” Herman said last week in a press conference.

Part of that, Herman said, is adding new staff positions like a director of creative social media content. Chang also has media experience. Prior to joining Herman at Houston, he spent eight years with ESPN and won three Sports Emmy Awards according to his bio.

If you liked this video, there should be plenty more where it came from.
