Pro Football Focus: Connor Williams one of the 10 best returning players in college football

Posted February 7th, 2017

Pro Football Focus’ love affair with standout All-Big 12 offensive lineman Connor Williams continues.

The football website named Williams the 10th best returning player in college football, ahead of Heisman hopeful Sam Darnold of USC and other known players like Georgia running back Nick Chubb and Washington quarterback Jake Browning.

For those who read PFF frequently, or just plain watch the Texas Longhorns play football, Williams’ inclusion on the list is unsurprising. The site named Williams, an Outland Trophy finalist, a mid-season All-American and lauded his incredible pass blocking efficiency this season.

Here’s what the site said about Williams:

He’s a smooth pass protector, allowing only 21 pressures over his two years including only five in 2016.

Oklahoma quarterback Baker Mayfield was the top returning player according to the site, followed by Heisman Trophy winner Lamar Jackson. Florida State safety Derwin James was third with Oklahoma State quarterback Mason Rudolph and Clemson defensive lineman Dexter Lawrence rounding out the top five.

Texas coach Tom Herman did leave behind one standout player at Houston, as defensive lineman Ed Oliver was sixth.
