The 2017 NFL Draft is still a couple months away, but the mock draft machine is running full throttle. So where is D’Onta Foreman expected to land?
Sports Illustrated‘s latest projection is one of the few that gazes past the first round, and it has Foreman going No. 40 overall to the Carolina Panthers as the third running back off the board. It makes sense, assuming the Panthers don’t select a running back with their first-round selection.
According to SI’s Chris Burke, LSU’s Leonard Fournette and Florida State’s Dalvin Cook will be the first two running backs selected in the first round. Here’s what Burke had to say about Foreman, who beat out Fournette and Cook to win the Doak Walker Award as college football’s best running back.
All the reasons a Fournette-Panthers match makes sense work here, too, even if Foreman may not be the same level of prospect as his LSU counterpart.
Carolina might be a good fit for the 6-foot-1, 249-pound Foreman. The Panthers ranked 20th in the NFL at 4.0 yards per carry. Leading rusher Jonathan Stewart finished with 824 yards (3.8 yards per carry), and quarterback Cam Newton was the only other player to rush for more than 300 yards.
