Incoming Longhorns earn TSWA all-state accolades
Posted February 10th, 2017
Some Longhorns-to-be can now add all-state honors to their resumes.
On Friday, Lake Travis senior Cade Brewer was recognized as an all-state honoree by the Texas Sports Writers Association. Brewer was the first-team tight end on the TSWA’s Class 6A all-state team. This past fall, Brewer turned 64 receptions into 851 yards and 14 touchdowns as Lake Travis won the Class 6A, Division I championship.
Brewer is a member of Texas’ 2017 recruiting class. Joining him on the 40 Acres will be Temple’s Ta’Quon Graham and Hooks’ Montrell Estell.
Earlier in the week, the state’s sportswriters also gave first-team nods to Graham and Estell. Graham was honored as a Class 5A defensive lineman while Estell was the top all-purpose back in Class 3A.
Despite missing playing time with a hip injury, Graham registered 50 tackles and 11 sacks this season. A Graham-anchored defense allowed 15.7 points per game during Temple’s postseason run to the Class 5A, Division I championship game.
Estell accounted for 875 rushing yards, 628 receiving yards and 21 offensive touchdowns over Hooks’ 12 games this season. Estell averaged 21.7 yards per catch and 11.8 yards per rush. Recruited to Texas as a defensive back, Estell also recorded 107 tackles and two interceptions during his senior year.
Humble Atascocita offensive lineman Samuel Cosmi earned a third-team spot on the TSWA’s Class 6A honor roll. Brenham linebacker Marqez Bimage and Nacogdoches defensive back Josh Thompson were honorable mentions on the Class 5A team.
