“You’ve got Dr. Dre, Tupac and Eminem.”
Texas coach Tom Herman has his top three rap artists figured out. Just don’t ask him to round out the top five, unless you want a rundown of his full playlist. (Spoiler: we do.)
Herman is finding all kinds of ways to relate to his players, but when it comes to his taste in music you can tell nothing is forced. Listen to the nearly two-minute response he gave to the “top-five rappers” question he received during a recent Q&A with Texas students.

Herman said there are “ridiculous amounts of candidates” for spots four and five, including Ice Cube, Snoop Dogg, Biggie Smalls, Drake and Nas. He also listed off Houston artists Slim Thug and Paul Wall.
“It’s just hard,” he said. “Are we talking about groups? Are we talking about Wu-Tang Clan? Are we talking about Beastie Boys? Are we talking about Run-D.M.C.?”
Remember, this is the same coach who once sported a grill — fitted by Paul Wall — after Houston won the American Athletic Conference championship in 2015.
