This weekend, Texas and Oklahoma State will jostle for positioning in the Big 12 standings.
A doubleheader on Friday will open a three-game series between Texas and Oklahoma State. Texas (28-16) has won seven of its 15 Big 12 games this season, and that 7-8 record has earned the Longhorns a sixth-place reputation in the conference. Sitting a game behind Texas in the standings is Oklahoma State (23-16; 6-9).
Texas will throw right-handers Nolan Kingham (6-3, 1.98 ERA), Morgan Cooper (5-2, 1.61) and Kyle Johnston (2-1, 3.26) at the Cowboys. Joe Lienhard (2-0, 4.00) and Tyler Buffett (5-3, 4.45) will oppose Kingham and Cooper on Friday. Blake Battenfield (2-2, 4.85) will start for the home team on Saturday.
Led by Big 12 batting leader Garrett McCain, Oklahoma State is hitting .267 and averaging 6.4 runs per game. Texas has scored more runs than only one team in its conference, but the Longhorns have recently experimented with Patrick Mathis atop their line-up.
