Arguably the hottest pitcher in the Big 12, Texas junior Morgan Cooper was honored by the conference on Monday.

Cooper has been named the Big 12’s pitcher of the week. In a 7-0 win at Oklahoma State this past Friday, Cooper struck out 11 while holding the Cowboys to zero runs, two hits and one walk. A recipient of this award for the first time in his career, Cooper joined Texas pitcher Nolan Kingham on the Big 12’s list of weekly winners this season.

Texas Tech’s Hunter Hargrove (player of the week) and Brian Klein (newcomer of the week) were also recognized by the Big 12 on Monday.

Cooper is 6-2 this spring, and he has allowed more than two earned runs in only one of his 11 starts. A right-hander from Jarrell, Cooper leads the Big 12 in ERA (1.45) and strikeouts (86).

Cooper’s next start will likely come on Saturday against conference-leading TCU. Both Texas (30-16; 9-8) and TCU (31-11; 12-6) appeared in national polls this week.
