It’s Friday, which means CBS Sports college football writer Tom Fornelli is ranking something college football-related. This week it’s a list of “Top events all college football fans should attend at least one time.”
To visitors of this site — and, frankly, most die-hard college football fans not hailing from College Station — there is a clear omission. Not only is the Red River Rivalry not in the top five, but it’s not even an honorable mention. (Unless you count his “roughly 100 other things,” which we don’t.)
Now, before we all start ragging on Tom too bad, there is a clear bias at play here. No, we’re not calling out his fan or conference allegiances, whatever they may or may not be.
What do these five events have in common?
- Blacksburg at night
- Ohio State-Michigan
- A night game in Baton Rouge
- The Rose Bowl
They’re all good choices, but they all take place after one of the following: sunset or Thanksgiving.
As someone with a fair complexion who has to lather on sunscreen just for the drive to Dallas, I can appreciate where Fornelli is coming from here. The Red River Rivalry is fantastic, but sweating through your shorts can be a bit of a drag.
Or … Fornelli just has a warped sense when it comes to the best events in college football. You be the judge.
