Posted May 23rd, 2017

With its postseason tournament set to begin this week, the Big 12 honored regular-season work on Tuesday.

Texas pitchers Morgan Cooper and Nolan Kingham have joined senior first baseman Kacy Clemens on the 2017 All-Big 12 baseball team. Cooper and Kingham were first-team honorees while Clemens was a second-team pick.

Cooper’s 96 strikeouts currently lead the Big 12, and the redshirt junior’s 2.33 ERA ranks third. Kingham has posted a 2.87 ERA during his sophomore year, and his eight wins are tied for the conference’s lead. Cooper and Kingham both won one of the Big 12’s Pitcher of the Week awards this season.

Kacy Clemens (hitting against Rice last week) had two homers against UConn on Friday. (Andy Nietupski for AMERICAN-STATESMAN)

Clemens leads Texas in batting average (.308), home runs (nine), RBIs (42) and runs (42). He has also stolen 10 bases.

Texas is the Big 12 tournament’s sixth seed, and the Longhorns will play Oklahoma on Wednesday night. Both teams head to Oklahoma City with 34-20 records.
