Daily Longhorn football history: The 1925 season

Posted May 27th, 2017

The Texas football program dates back to 1893. Each day, we look at a little piece of Longhorn history. We’re starting by looking at each Longhorn football season.

The first full season of football at Memorial Stadium was a success. Texas went 5-0 at home and 6-2-1 overall. The Longhorns finished second in Southwest Conference play with a 2-1-1 record. Texas beat Auburn on a neutral field in Dallas. The Longhorns opened the season with a pair of shutout wins over Southwestern and Mississippi and didn’t allow an opponent to score in Memorial Stadium until Rice on Oct. 24.

However, Texas finished the season with a road loss to Texas A&M, 28-0.

Off the field, head coach E.J. “Doc” Stewart was still enjoying some positive vibes, and he was diversifying a portfolio off the field as he invested in recreational properties in Kerrville,Texas. But those vibes would soon pass.
