Let’s use Texas’ roster, history and scouting reports to countdown to the start of the 2017 football season. Today, we are only 87 days away from Texas’ home game against Maryland.
Which Longhorn wears No. 87? TE Garrett Gray. The ex-Marble Falls star has fluctuated between receiver and tight end since he signed in 2014. Gray has yet to record a catch, but he could see some playing time this year as Texas searches for a tight end.
Who also wears No. 87? Oklahoma DE D.J. Ward (28 tackles, one sack in 2016); Iowa State TE Sam Harms (two catches, seven yards); TCU WR TreVontae Hights (one catch, 42 yards)
Fun fact about No. 87: RB Ricky Williams ran for a school-record 6,279 yards at Texas, and he earned 87 of those yards on one attempt during a 23-21 loss over Baylor in 1997. It was the longest run of Williams’ collegiate career. The 1998 Heisman winner actually had only one other run of at least 80 yards.
