Athlon’s 2017 All-Americans includes 2 Longhorns, but they aren’t the two you think

Posted June 22nd, 2017

Athlon released its 2017 All-American team earlier this week and not surprising two Longhorns are on the its set of three teams.

While Connor Williams is a near no-brainer for a first-team selection, the second name is just as obvious but not who you think.

While linebacker Malik Jefferson is appearing on most NFL first round mock draft lists, being called a future star in the NFL, and well, even being called the “face of the program,” he’s not an All-American according to Athlon.

But the most effective Longhorns defense player from 2016 was  recognized by Athlon. All-Big 12 punter  Michael Dickson is a third-team All-American according to Athlon. Dickson’s 2016 campaign was incredible as the punter continually pushed offenses back with his big leg.

Williams was a first-team selection as the widely believed future first-round pick is coming off a tremendous sophomore season in which he led the way for a 2,000-yard rusher and Doak Walker Award winner D’Onta Foreman.
