Wide receiver Justin Watkins de-commits from Texas

Posted June 25th, 2017

East Ridge (Fla.) slot wide receiver Justin Watkins de-committed from Texas Sunday night. The four-star slot receiver announced his decision to open his recruitment hours after the Longhorns secured a commitment from four-star slot receiver Rondale Moore. Texas now holds 11 commitments in the 2018 recruiting class.

Moore is now Texas’ only wide receiver commit in the cycle. The Longhorns aren’t short on potential targets, however. In-state wide receivers Al’Vonte Woodard, Brennan Eagles, Tommy Bush and Jaylen Waddle hold offers and are still in contact with the Texas staff. Moore, Woodard, Eagles and Bush will attend The Opening Finals in Oregon starting June 28.

Watkins was Texas’ first commitment of the class, flipping from Florida State on junior day in late February. Losing Watkins dropped Texas’ recruiting ranking to No. 7 in the nation. It remains the No. 1 class in the Big 12.
