Let’s use Texas’ roster, history and scouting reports to countdown to the start of the 2017 football season. Today, we are only 55 days away from Texas’ home game against Maryland.
Which Longhorn wears No. 55? Junior left tackle Connor Williams, who is a 6-6, 320-pound All-American with 23 starts on his resume. Williams is generating some buzz among the NFL Draft prognosticators, one of which thinks he could be the first Longhorn taken with the No. 1 overall pick since Kenneth Sims in 1982. Williams has also proven on his Twitter account that he is as graceful on water as he is on land.

Who also wears No. 55? Maryland OL Derwin Gray (three starts in 2016); Kansas OL Jacob Bragg (two starts)
Fun fact about No. 55: No team has scored more points on Texas in a bowl game than Iowa, which went for 55 points in a 38-point rout at the 1984 Freedom Bowl. (That was Texas’ only appearance in the Freedom Bowl, which existed from 1984-94). Texas has played Iowa only twice, and the Longhorns fared better in their 26-24 win at the 2006 Alamo Bowl.
