Let’s use Texas’ roster, history and scouting reports to countdown to the start of the 2017 football season. Today, we are only 42 days away from Texas’ home game against Maryland.
Which Longhorn wears No. 42? Junior Jay Harper, a third-year walk-on who has been listed as a tight end, running back and linebacker on Texas’ roster. That was Caleb Blueitt’s number from 2012-16, and it appears that Brenham-bred LB Marqez Bimage will inherit that jersey this fall.
Who also wears No. 42? TCU LB Ty Summers (121 tackles, 5 TFL in 2016)
Fun fact about No. 42: Eric Metcalf produced 42-catch seasons in 1986 and 1988, and he was UT’s leading receiver both times. (Tony Jones also caught 42 passes in 1988). In addition to being Texas’ leading rusher in 1987 and 1988, Metcalf was also the NCAA’s champion in the long jump in 1986 and 1988.
