Boosted by a mid-game scoring spree, Texas coasted to a 7-2 win over Lamar on Wednesday.
Lamar struck first at UFCU Disch-Falk Field, but Texas forced a 1-1 tie in the second inning. Three errors by Lamar’s defense in the fourth inning led to two runs, and UT added four runs in the following frame.
Texas ended the game with a season-high 10 hits. Lamar (1-3) committed four errors.
UT freshman Nico O’Donnell gave up three hits and a run in his first-ever start, which lasted 3 1/3 innings and 50 pitches. Fellow freshman Bryce Elder was credited with the victory after 1 2/3 innings of hitless relief. Texas used five pitchers, none of which were on the team’s roster in 2017.
UT (3-1) will travel to LSU (2-2) this weekend for a three-game series. No. 19 Texas and No. 23 LSU were both ranked this week in D1Baseball’s national poll.
