Before freshman Nico O’Donnell takes the mound on Thursday, Texas will hand the baseball to Tom Herman.
UT’s football coach will throw out the ceremonial first pitch as the Longhorns prepare to open a four-game series against Stanford. Herman will also appear on the PA system at UFCU Disch-Falk Field during the game, which is set to begin at 6:30 p.m.
Last year, Herman was scheduled to throw out the first pitch on May 2. That appearance was cancelled due to the on-campus stabbing attack that killed first-year student Harrison Brown. Texas instead held a moment of silence ahead of its game against UT-Arlington.
A week earlier, Herman had appeared before a Round Rock Express game:

Stanford and Texas are ranked seventh and 23rd in D1Baseball’s national poll. UT announced on Wednesday that O’Donnell (1-0; 1.04 ERA) will oppose Stanford ace Tristan Beck (2-0; 1.50) in Thursday’s opener. Nolan Kingham (2-1; 3.57), Blair Henley (2-0; 0.53) and Chase Shugart (0-1; 5.19) are set to start over the weekend.
Herman, meanwhile, will be preparing for the football team’s spring drills. Texas will hold its first spring practice on March 20. The annual Orange-White Spring Game will kick off at 6:30 p.m. on April 21.
