Rice grad transfer offensive tackle Calvin Anderson becomes Tom Herman’s top addition

Posted March 10th, 2018

The biggest addition for Texas after the 2017 season isn’t a recruit from the star-studded 2018 class that ranked third in the nation, first in the Big 12 and included the top five players on the Fabulous 55. The Longhorns’ newest addition, Rice grad transfer Calvin Anderson, was just what Tom Herman and new offensive line coach Herb Hand ordered.

Anderson is expected to replace future NFL Draftee Connor Williams, who declared after his junior season. Williams was an All-American and proved impossible to replace after an injury in the 2017 season. Herman needed to bolster his offensive line ranks and did so by adding five pieces by national signing day, including JUCO transfer Mikey Grandy.

Saturday, Herman added what every team in football needs to be successful – a bookend offensive tackle with talent and experience. Anderson was rated as one of the top pass blockers in college football during the 2017 season for Rice. The former Westlake grad signed with the Owls in the 2014 class and also spent time at Georgetown High School as a teenager.
