Ricky Williams has launched a new cannabis company called “Real Wellness by Ricky Williams” that will sell a variety of marijuana products, including cannabis salves, tonics and vape cartridges.
“Today marks an important day in my career with the launch of my new cannabis-based wellness brand, Real Wellness by Ricky Williams,” the 1998 Heisman Trophy winner said in a statement.
Count no one as truly surprised that Williams is venturing into a fast-growing business that has already attracted another Austin-area legend, Willie Nelson.
Originally from San Diego, Williams is already a partner in the “world’s first pot-friendly gym” so him rolling into another part of the industry seems natural.
Williams, a former NFL running back and Pro Bowler who became a famous on the 40 Acres as he became the all-time leading rusher in NCAA history, is currently working on his Ph.D. in Chinese medicine. He also is visible on the Longhorn Network as an analyst.
“I am known as a professional football player,” Williams told the Sun-Sentinel. “In the last 14 years, I have been educating myself and training as a health care practitioner.”
He also told the Cannabist: “When they write my obit, I want it to talk about the people I’ve touched and the lives I’ve changed. The last line might say, ‘He played football.'”
