The Final Pitch: Texas 13, UT-Rio Grande Valley 2 (7 innings)

Posted April 17th, 2018

One day after returning to the D1Baseball poll, Texas recorded a 13-2 rout of UT-Rio Grande Valley at UFCU Disch-Falk Field. Tuesday’s game was called after UT-RGV was retired in the seventh inning.

The Longhorns were retired in order in the first inning, but Texas soon blew open the game. David Hamilton’s second home run of the year was a two-run shot that gave Texas a 2-0 advantage in the second inning. Kody Clemens hit a grand slam later in the inning, and his 12th homer extended UT’s lead to seven runs.

Hamilton later added two run-scoring hits. He entered the game with 10 RBIs, but drove in six runs on Tuesday.

Four Texas pitchers held UT-RGV (18-19) to seven hits and two runs. Defensively, senior Jake McKenzie played every position for the Longhorns.

Texas will meet Texas Southern at Sugar Land’s Constellation Field on Wednesday. The Longhorns (25-14) were ranked 21st by D1Baseball this week.
