Count CBS’s Dennis Dodd as one who is buying 2018 Texas football stock.
Dodd released his post-spring college football top 25 rankings on Tuesday and the Longhorns are still in his rankings, coming in at No. 20, one spot higher than Texas A&M.
Tom Herman has a culture established in Year 2. He still doesn’t have a clear No. 1 quarterback. That will have to change for the Longhorns to get past a 7-6 debut for Herman. The coach is high on returners Sam Ehlinger, Shane Buechele and two early-enrollee freshmen.”
The Longhorns’ bowl victory and a handful of returning players make them a popular pick to return to an AP top 25 regular in 2018, though that has been written many times over the last five years in the month of May. But this year seems to carry a little more weight as Herman brings in a top 10 2018 recruiting class, a top 10 class from 2016 enters their collective junior years and at the very least the quarterback room is full of players on scholarship.
Other Big 12 schools appearing in Dodd’s top 25 include Oklahoma (8) and West Virginia (18).
