Texas to light the UT Tower on Monday night after Longhorns sweep Big 12 tennis tournaments

Posted May 7th, 2018

Texas has two reasons to light its tower this evening.

Texas will celebrate the conference championships recently won by its men’s and women’s tennis teams on Monday night. In recognition of the seventh and eighth Big 12 titles secured by Texas’ athletic department this school year, the UT Tower will be lit with burnt-orange lights. As UT programs traditionally do during such celebrations, the tennis teams will take pictures in front of the festive tower.

On April 29, the Texas women recorded a 4-1 win over Texas Tech in the Big 12 tournament’s championship match. UT also won the conference’s regular-season title.

That same day, the Texas men secured their first tournament title since 2010 with a 4-2 win over Baylor.

Both of UT’s tennis teams will host the opening two rounds of the NCAA tournament this weekend. The UT men will attempt to outlast a field that includes Bryant, North Carolina State and California. If it beats McNeese State at the Texas Tennis Center on Friday, the Texas women will battle either Texas A&M or Rice on Saturday.
